Looking for a BlazBlue: Entropy Effect Advanced Oread tutorial for the Mind Challenge? Well you found the right place, because one of the most frustrating bosses to fight in 91Act and Arc System Works’ hack-and-slash BlazBlue: Entropy Effect is definitely Oread. She’s the young flower maiden who floats in the air, shooting pink butterfly swarms at you and intersecting laser beams.
What makes her difficult to fight? Well, you can mostly dodge the laser beams and the single pink butterflies that follow you, but the butterfly swarms are an absolute menace, and if you’re not careful, they can kill you in a pass or two. So how do you defeat Advanced Oread in the Mind Challenge mode? Hakumen.
Yes, he might seem like an odd choice, but he actually makes a ton of sense given his skillset and ability to upgrade his shield and invincible frames when dodging. You don’t even need to have a high entropy level run to get him good enough to defeated Advanced Oread, but it is advised to at least be over level 75 with your HP, and you’re going to need certain crystals enabled when fighting her to get the best advantage possible to survive her attacks.

Crystal Loadout And Mind Levels
Personally, I feel your Mind Upgrade should be level 85 to comfortably defeat Advanced Oread with room to spare. But again, you can try it at level 75. You will have to prioritize dodging and blocking a lot more, though. If you don’t have enough credits to get to level 75, do a few runs, stock up on mind crystals and sell the ones you don’t need, AFTER you setup the crystal group loadout for Advanced Oread.

So here is a list of the crystal group you should have setup to fight Advanced Orea:
- Blooming Vigor: Increases Max HP By 80% (level 3)
- Mixture Replenishment: HP Mixture +3 (level 3)
- Devastation: When breaking the Armor of an enemy, Stuns that enemy for 4s (level 3)
- Straightforward: Attack damage is increased by 30% (level 3)
- Giant Slayer: Deals 40% more damage to Elite enemies (level 3)
- Mixture Enhancement: HP Mixture recovers extra 80% of HP to you (level 3)
The reason for having these as your loadout is because you need the extra HP to tank Oread’s damage output, and you need to be able to dish out lots of damage to her when you hit her. Seems pretty simple. The HP mixtures are useful for when your life gets low, obviously. Now, if you’re highly skilled, you should be able to get through without using any HP mixtures, but obviously not everyone is capable of playing the game at Asian Difficulty settings.

Hakumen Evotype: Basic, Potential And Tactic
The most effective way to approach Oread is using skills that benefit Hakumen’s ability to blink in close and dish out damage while zipping away. You’ll want to avoid long range skills and tactics that rely on projectiles as they could mess up your rhythm for focusing on the pattern of attacking, dodging, creating distance, blocking, dodging, and attacking again.
This is why for the Hakumen Evotype build you’ll use for Oread, you’ll want to combine him with Kokonoe and Jin Kisaragi. Why? Because Kokonoe has the Maple Blossom that can do both AOE and DOT, and Jin has Reitou (Frost Bite), which can slow down time when you do a dodge attack, which is extremely useful, it also slows down enemies.

Potential
This is the most important part by far, because leveling up Hakumen’s Potential is what will allow him to bypass those butterfly swarms. It might be wise to start a Normal Mind Trial run with Hakumen and then focus on accruing Potential. You will want:
- Kandachi: You want the buff that activates Super Armor while doing basic hack and slash attacks.
- Jump: You want the Jump Thrice buff with the recovery, so you can gain an invincible frame while you’re in air and press ‘A’ to recover when you take damage.
- Isaha: Gives you invincible frames and Super Armor when doing a basic dash with ‘B’. Super, super, super useful. Make sure you level up so you get triple dash and that you have more invincibility frames. You will use this to dodge Oread’s attacks and keep dashing through without taking immediate damage.
- Kokuujin: Yukikaze: Level up this Potential so you can perform Blinks and so you can block attacks from behind, which is necessary because the butterfly swarm is an AOE attack, so even if you’re facing the wrong way, you’ll still be able to block the initial attack and counter-strike.
- Zantetsu / Kandachi: Level up this Potential to get Super Armor while this is being used and for Sekka. It’s necessary for if she tries to teleport during your attacks, you can still do damage whether she’s in front or behind you.
- Yanagi: Level up this Potential so that you get longer range on the attack and invincibility frames. You can actually use this to get through Oread’s laser grids and do damage to her.
- Kokuujin: Jinrai: Level this up and buff the SP portion so you can earn SP by blocking. You can essentially keep spamming this in cycles as you block the butterflies, launch a counter-strike, and then use Kokuujin to block the swarms, and then launch another counter-strike. A good rinse and repeat tactic.
- Universal Enhancement: Make sure you level this up, as you can reduce damage when Super Armor is active and buff it even more so you take even less damage when this is maxed out. You will definitely notice the difference during combat.

Tactics:
You can outfit Hakumen with the tactics you feel most comfortable with. Personally, I found the Poison and Ice combinations to be most effective. For dash, you want either ice or fire, so you either freeze Oread when dashing past/through her or add burn damage. Those are the two most effective.
Poison Ring is a good skill to have, along with the Electric Pillar for the Legacy Skill. If you combine the Electric Pillar with the Maple Blossom, you can deal significant damage to Oread in a very short amount of time, plus it locks her in place, giving you an opportunity to break through her armor.
For the summons, I typically go with the Summon Ice Spikes, because they auto-target Oread and do cold damage to slow her down, which is useful.

Defeating Advanced Oread
With your Potential intact, your skills setup, and your Mind Crystals distributed, it’s time to face off against Oread. Your main goal here is to do your biggest attacks right at the start – use your skills as quickly as possible to do as much alpha damage as you can, because the longer the fight goes on, the more she’ll start combining her attacks and mixing up when she uses the butterfly swarms.
You will get a heads-up about when they’re coming. You will see exclamation marks indicating which direction they’re coming from and at what height. You’ll need to start the block BEFORE the swarm reaches you, so that when they do touch you, Hakumen will automatically counter.

Try to position him near or at Oread’s level, so that if she’s in the air, you can do a hop and then block so that when Hakumen counters, he’s doing damage to Oread. This works well for whittling down her armor and getting her into a stunned state. The extra four second Mind Crystal stun effect also comes in handy here when you do penetrate her defenses.
If you don’t have enough MP for when she uses the butterfly swarm back-to-back, use Down + ‘Y’ to activate Hakumen’s SP block, so you not only give your MP time to recharge, but it’s a nice last ditch effort to mitigate damage and deal damage if you’re close enough to Oread.
Alternate between these attacks, watch your MP, and make sure you’re consistently using your skills to stun-lock her with the Maple Blossom and Electric Pillar attacks so you can get in even more damage. If you stick to this tactic you should defeat her soundly.

Congratulations!
Congratulations, if you’ve followed these steps successfully, you should have been able to soundly defeat Advanced Oread and complete the final Mind Challenge in BlazBlue: Entropy Effect. You should feel proud of yourself for having accomplished this achievement.
