Other Items You Need + Quick-Slots

You should have plenty of healing supplies, including as many small medical kits as you can carry, and food to replenish your health.

Also, be sure to stock up on plenty of alcohol. Make sure you have multiple bottles of Jack Daniels and other whiskey that will boost Yagami’s drunkenness up to level 8 instantly. Also beers and sake are fine, too, so long as you can get it to level 6 or above.

Remember you need the skills to boost up Yagami’s alcohol threshold and the ability to perform the drunken fist EX special. These are going to be absolutely essential in the fight.

So let’s explain how this all works (you can also see a video courtesy of Abyx Gaming).

DO NOT LOSE YOUR PHONE

Make sure your EX gauge is filled before you start the fight, and make sure you have all of your supplies and items.

The very first thing you’re going to do is AVOID losing Yagami’s phone. Once Shin Amon takes the phone, you cannot get it back during the remainder of the fight, and you cannot access your items or inventory or skills any longer.

So at the very start of the fight, run away and then run towards Shin Amon so Yagami performs a leapfrog over Shin’s head. Once you get the ‘Y’ (or Triangle prompt on PlayStation) to perform the EX leapfrog attack, do it!

Every first attack on Shin Amon does max damage. Repeating any attack on Shin Amon does minimal damage.

Your main goal during this segment of the fight is to get Shin Amon’s health bar all the way down to blue and then some. The reason for this is because once his life gets low enough, he will switch to the dual electric whips, and from there he will be unable to steal your phone.

So the main goal is to get his life low enough so he cannot steal your phone.

Use The Energy Ball Extract + Throw Extract

Once you perform the EX Leapfrog attack, run away from him and instantly open up your item menu and activate the Energy Ball Extract if you have the DLC. Begin to use it until you run out and then instantly activate the Instant Kill Extract and rapidly press ‘B’ once it’s activated. If you are fast enough you might be able to use it twice in a row.

Before he can close his distance quickly activate the Heavenstrike Extract and use it on him. If he’s still outside of grabbing distance, use it again on him and then quickly create distance,.

Run away from him and slow down just enough to see what attack he does. You’re going to want to bait him into throwing a grenade.

If you do not have the DLC, you will have to rely solely on the Throw Extract after performing the EX Leapfrog attack. This will be more difficult, but your objective here is to use the right-bumper parry to avoid his grabs and then use the Throw Extract to do a Michinoku Driver on him by tapping ‘B’ when the Throw Extract is active.

Even with the DLC, you will still need to use the Throw Extract on him after you exhaust the Energy Ball, Heavenstrike and Instant Kill Extracts.

The trick is to only grab Shin Amon AFTER he throws a grenade at you. Once you see him stop to pull out a grenade, walk towards him – he will throw the grenade at your last position when his animation first started. So you don’t have to worry about getting blown up. Once his throw animation finishes, use the Throw Extract maneuver on him.

Unlike the other moves that deal less damage when used more than once, the Throw Extract is the only move that does massive damage every time it’s used, but you can only use it during the first portion of the fight when he can also grab you and take your phone. So use it wisely and rely on it to get his life down past the blue bar.

Switch To Shin Amon’s Style: Red = Tiger, Blue = Crane

All right, here is where the real fight begins, but also where it gets a lot easier, too.

If you can get past the phone-grabbing segment WITHOUT losing your phone, you can easily win.

Once Shin Amon brings out his electric whips the fight here will rely on your EX trigger, switching to the appropriate styles, and staying drunk.

All the liquor you stocked up on? Drink a bottle so you are maxed out.

The skill to boost up Yagami’s EX meter charge when he’s drunk? This will come in handy, as once you’re drunk you will need to keep your EX meter charged and you will need to match Shin Amon’s style.

When he brings out the electric tonfa/whips, make sure you switch to Crane style.

Activate your EX boost with the right trigger, and just keep using your attacks. If you have the Fast Fighter Extract or any extract that boosts your combo speed, now would be the time to activate it. This will allow you to rapidly attack Shin, while slowly whittling down his life.

When the background switches to orange/red, quickly switch to Tiger style. Keep wailing on him and ensure you trigger your EX boost. You can keep your EX gauge boosted by using combos, aborbing his attacks and staying drunk.

Also, so long as you match Shin Amon’s style, your life will not deplete.

If you find that you cannot get in any attacks nor get enough EX gauge to trigger the EX boost, just keep matching his style while staying drunk, and when you get enough EX bars filled use the drunken fist EX attack on him by pressing Y.

This will give you a bit of breathing room, since he is relentless, especially in the orange/red Tiger mode.

Now you might notice that once his life gets down to the penultimate orange just before going yellow, it will seem like his life is barely going down. This is because the only way to really do damage is to use attacks from the opposite fighting style. So if Shin Amon is using Crange, only Tiger will do max damage, and vice versa.

The problem here is that if you switch to an opposite style, you will die in just a couple of hits from his attacks.

This requires a lot of strategy but basically your goal is to max out your EX gauge, activate the EX boost, and then when he switches styles, you’re going to open your inventory and activate the Beatdown Extract. You must use this VERY quickly, as it will tackle down Shin Amon and if you press the appropriate button, you can do massive damage so long as your styles are opposite. This is best used once he switches. Once you complete the beatdown, quickly switch back to the same style as Shin Amon and attempt to maintain your health and EX gauge.

Alternative Way To Finish Shin Amon

If you have the DLC, use the Mystical Dance Extract once his life gets down to the orange range, and this will allow you to take infinite amounts of damage for the duration of the extract. Use this opportunity to activate the EX boost in the opposite style of Shin Amon and just wail on him as much as you can for the during of the Mystical Dance Extract, since you won’t be able to die. If you do not have the DLC, the Die Hard Extract is a good item to keep on hand, as it will auto-replenish your health if your health reaches zero.

Another tactic is that you stay in the same fighting style as Shin Amon, keep attacking with your EX boost so you don’t lose life (even though you’ll be doing barely any damage to him), and activate the Deadly Crane or Deadly Tiger Extract. While your EX boost is triggered, use ‘B’ to attack while the Deadly Crane or Deadly Tiger Extract is active, and you will do substantial enough damage even when your styles are matching.

Another alternative is that if your boost gauge is drained and you’re in the same fighting style as Shin Amon, activate the Thunder Strike Extract, so this way he can’t ragdoll you around the arena with his attacks. This will allow you to keep fighting while your EX gauge refills.

If you follow these steps you should be able to defeat him. It will be a difficult fight regardless, but these tips should help you whether you’re playing Sega’s Judgment on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, or on Steam for PC.
